Almost everyone I know is after high performance.
The next new thing—a potion, a shot, a new formulation of a proprietary blend to enhance collagen production or perhaps condensed protein of some sort. We want clarity, energy, to move the needle just a little more.
Now, I’m all about optimization. It’s the thing I do with clients. However, my version is not the sexiest, or the latest craze. Conversely, it might be the simplest. But, it’s a surefire way to transform your mentality and energy.
It’s slowing down.
When we add just one more plate to an already perfectly stacked load, we run the risk of dropping them all. Or, at the very least, moving with less agility, not more. Our society, or at least the high performers, have become bogged down with obligation. A knowing certainty that I can, in fact, “handle it” and just keep piling on more. To test ourselves? Because we can? Being capable of doing something doesn’t mean it’s right for you.
In my opinion, curating the best things for you and your circumstances is the optimal way to live life. Knowing your strengths and gaining self-awareness of your weaknesses. Slowing down to evaluate what feels bad—and what feels good. Perhaps routines put in place decades ago that no longer serve you (hello, 7 days at the gym at 25 may not be the best fit at 50). We sometimes live life in our daily routines as though time has not moved—we expect the same energy, the same motivation, the same priorities. But they change and so do we. In re-evaluating priorities that appear to be sacred cows in our world, we can create pockets of movement, of change and of energy. New priorities can create new routines and our daily routines make up our lives. In evaluating your routines, you just might make room for the most important things that bid for your attention but you currently don’t have time for.
Take a breath and consider slowing down.
